Spring Break in Fredericksburg, Texas!

Tuesday, March 11, 2013

We literally JUST got home from a 3 night/4 day trip to Fredericksburg.  I did unpack some bags and start a load of laundry, but I wanted to make sure that I documented everything about our wonderful trip!!  We had a blast!!!!

The trip was actually planned many weeks ago, but as we got closer to the actual day of leaving, there was still a chance of rain all weekend so we debated up until the last minute whether or not we would still go.  Needless to say, we decided to go and I am SO glad that we did!

We left the house around 2 pm on Friday, went to pick up Brooke from school, stopped by Market Street for a couple of things, and we were off...on a 5 hour journey to Fredericksburg!  Our Volvo was packed!  The Silliman's offered to take Brody's bike and scooter since we didn't have any room in our SUV.  I packed everything you could imagine for a camping trip!  From towels to linens to hand sanitizer to clorox wipes to paper towels!

We took the scenic route through the hill country and let me just say, it was GORGEOUS!!!  Wow!  Breathtaking!  The scenary was just amazing!  The kids whined and moaned practically the entire time and we finally drove up to Jellystone Park around 7:30.

Our cabin was not what I expected at all!  It was so nice!!  So clean with granite countertops, wood floors, full size fridge, dishwasher, and 2 flat screen tv's with free wi-fi!  This was my first camping trip and it fully exceeded my expectations!

The first night, we met the rest of the group by the Havens RV and all sat around a fire.  It was freezing!!!  The kids and I left around 10 pm and went back to the cabin.  Blake stayed and hung out till around midnight.

The next morning, the kids and Blake went exploring the camp site and found a lot of fun stuff for the kids to do!  Around lunchtime, we went to Main Street and ate at a restaurant called Auslanders.  Auslanders is the German word for tourists/foreigners.  The food was o-kay.  Tried some sauerkraut since I am not a picky eater and I have it say...it was not tasty!!!  Blake said it smelled like feet and it did!  After lunch, the kids wanted to go back to the cabin to play and I laid down for a nap.  Later, I did a little shopping with the ladies.  That evening, we drove about an hour to a city called Driftwood to have dinner at a BBQ place called SaltLick.  Very cool atmosphere!  Pretty neat!
The highlight of the trip came that evening.  We got home around 10ish.  It was starting to rain cats and dogs.  I got the kids to bed and several hours later, I woke to Brody crying.  He fell out of the bed!  Blake was holding him.  I rubbed the sides of his head to feel for bumps...nothing.  We put Brody back to bed.  The next morning, we wake up to a pool full of blood on Brody's pillow!  Needless to say, I'm freaking out!  I finally locate the gash on the TOP of his head and flip out some more.  Blake went to Walmart to get some Neosporin and after treating it, we continued with our day...hiking at Enchanted Rock!  WOW!!!! What a wonderful experience!  Beautiful!  Gorgeous!  Breathtaking!  So much fun hiking through ridiculously dangerous rocks, HUGE rocks.  Can't believe we are all still alive!  Thank you Lord!  Definitely the highlight of our trip!  That day was also Brooke's 7th Birthday!  My little girl turned 7!  I can't believe it!  We celebrated in our cabin with cupcakes, crafts, balloons, bubbles, and popcorn for all the girls!  It was so fun and memorable!
That night we had a fun little bonfire and ate sliders for dinner, courtesy of the Silliman's!  The kids had soooo much fun on this trip!  We can't wait to go back!
